Patient Information - Pre-Op Diet

photo

Begin a liquid diet 5 to 7 days prior to surgery. A protein shake like Atkins, Carbs For Life, Advantage or Slim Fast Low Carb is recommended.

Your liquid diet may include anything that can be put in a blender and has the consistency of thick paint.

DECREASE THESE IN YOUR DIET

  • All fats including butter, fatty meats, fried foods, and whole milk products
  • High sugar foods
  • Carbonated drinks (no carbonated drinks after surgery either)
  • High carbohydrate foods, such as bread

IMPORTANT
The pre-op diet is important in getting you into a proper nutritional state for your surgery, reducing the fat in and around your liver, and also shrinking the liver itself. If you do not follow your pre-op diet properly, your liver may be too large, and your surgery may have to be postponed. If you have problems with your pre-op diet, or have any questions, then please contact our office.
